Project included relocation of entire existing unit to nearby space allow renovation to be completed without phasing construction. Extensive detail went into planning and risk mitigation through selective demolition.
The area of renovation was close to 500 square metres and included every component of a 21st century Intensive Care Unit: seven individual (i.e. private) patient rooms each with its own private washroom, one isolation suite with washroom and ante-room, a centralized nursing station with direct sightlines to all patient spaces and a more private staff work area, a barrier-free assisted shower room, an eight-bay step-down or recovery unit, a dual-access soiled utility room for easy retrieval of soiled goods from the public corridor, dedicated public waiting and equipment room, offices and a well-equipped staff room.
