The Entwistle Community Recreation Centre was brought to fruition for the town of Entwistle after an extensive nine-year study and feasibility period. The Centre acts as a hub for local and surrounding communities and includes an outdoor pool with slide, spray park, a family-friendly inclusive change room, public library, commercial lease space for local business, municipal service office, and rentable multi-purpose room with pool access for community members.
Bright and fresh colours used throughout the interior spaces speak to the role of the facility as a new and vibrant hub where the community can work, play, learn, and gather. A strong spatial and visual connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces create an active and inspiring space that welcomes community in each of the differing seasons of Alberta. A glazed interior viewing area from the recreation centre overlooks the outdoor pool, and directly across, the public library is located with windows that borrow the natural light and pool views. A neutral color palette with pops of bright colour, warm natural wood accents, and expansive natural light all contribute to an energetic space that seeks to empower the community of Entwistle through recreation and learning.
